Court refuses to make permanent forfeiture order on Patience Jonathan’s $8.4m, N7.4b

Justice Mojisola Olatoregun of the Federal High Court in Lagos has dismissed an application from the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission EFCC to order the final forfeiture of $8.4 million and N7.4 billion linked to former First Lady, Dame Patience Jonathan.
The judge had in April 2018 ordered the temporary forfeiture of the funds which EFCC said were suspected to be proceeds of crime. Mrs Jonathan, Globus Integrated Services Ltd, Finchley Top Homes Ltd, Am-Pm Global Network Ltd, Pagmat Oil and Gas Ltd and Magel Resort Ltd and Esther Oba, all companies linked to her, had indicated at the time that the sum of money been investigated were donations she received from good citizens who loved her and wanted to bless her.
Among the temporarily forfeited sums are N1.085billion and N226.3million found in Finchley’s Ecobank account and N39.4million found in its Diamond Bank account, as well as N55.9million found in Pagmat Oil and Gas’ Diamond Bank account, among others.
Justice Olatoregun today said all the parties in the suit must give oral evidence to justify the money’s source and ownership.
“I have stated here that the right of parties in this suit cannot be determined by affidavit evidence. Oral testimonies are to be called with cross extermination. I hereby order parties to call upon their witnesses so that the right of parties can be determined one way or the other,” the judge ruled.

Barca scared it'll cost £87m to get 21 year old 'dream transfer' Marcus Rashford from Manchester United

According to Top Spanish newspaper, Mundo Deportivo, Barca are willing to make Marcus Rashford their latest signing, as they don't see any future with Luis Suarez and the possibility of Neymar returning to the club appear dim as the days go by.

Rashford, 21, who rose to prominence in 2016 after scoring two goals in his first senior game against Arsenal, is in line to sign a new contract running until the summer of 2025, that would see him earn around £200,000-a-week.

The Catalan giants are realistic that any attempt to sign Rashford, who is undoubtedly Man U's number one striker at the moment, from Old Trafford would cost in excess of €100m (£87m).  Rashford is considered 'non-transferable' by the Old Trafford chiefs.

Rashford was born and bred in Manchester, meaning it will be tough to take the lad from his hometown , where he already has cult- hero status.
Rashford has made 155 appearances for the Red Devils, scoring 42 goals for the club.

FINALLY! Chelsea Boss Sarri Speaks On Dumping The Club For Greener Pastures

Chelsea manager Maurizio Sarri has dismissed claims he has been approached by Roma.
Reports yesterday suggested Roma have made contact with Sarri and his representatives over a move to bring him back to Serie A to replace current Giallorossi boss Eusebio Di Francesco.
Sarri told BT Sport, when quizzed on the reported meeting, after Chelsea’s Europa League victory over Malmo:
“No, I have a contract with Chelsea for the next two seasons so it is impossible to have another contract.
“I read in an Italian newspaper something about a meeting with Franco Baldini but I think for the moment Franco is in South Africa so it is very difficult.”
Italian newspaper, La Repubblica had reported that this week that Baldini, a personal adviser to Roma owner, James Pallotta, met with Sarri in London.
Notwithstanding, Sarri has been under increasing pressure at Stamford Bridge following a record Premier League defeat to Manchester City and FA Cup elimination at the hands of Manchester United.

Why Elections may not hold in some areas- INEC

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has said it would not conduct elections in volatile areas where the safety of their staff and ahdoc workers is at risk.
The National Commissioner and Chairman, Information and Voter Education Committee of INEC, Festus Okoye, in an interview with Daily Independent, said while the election would go ahead as scheduled tomorrow, Saturday February 23rd, the commission would not risk the lives of its officials and ad-hoc staff by posting them to areas where their safety could not be guaranteed.
“We won’t just move ad-hoc staff arbitrarily to places where we believe they are very vulnerable or places we believe that if we deploy them to, they are likely to come to harm. We have been working with the Interagency Consultative Committee on Election Security to map out places that we regard as flashpoints, places that have serious problems of insurgency and places that we have camps of IDPs.“Wherever it is impossible to conduct elections and the security agencies are saying they cannot protect those areas, of course we won’t conduct elections in those areas. The implication is that it is either the people are completely displaced or partially displaced. It is not as if we are oblivious of some of the security challenges but we are working with all of these organs and the resident electoral commissioners in these states that have challenges of insecurity are in touch with all the critical stakeholders in terms of where it is possible to conduct elections and places where it is impossible to conduct elections, or where the registration areas have to be moved or adjusted to make sure that people vote.”
“Wherever it is possible for people to vote, we will make sure that the people are not disenfranchised. So, we are determined to make sure that every eligible Nigerian votes in this election unless it becomes practically impossible to conduct elections in some places, in which case the registration areas will be adjusted to enable people to vote. Wherever it is secure to conduct elections, we’ll conduct elections in those areas.” he said
