23 year old woman charged with defiling a 15-year-old boy in police cell

A Kenyan woman has been charged with defiling a 15-year-boy in a police cell where they had been detained for different offences.

Appearing at the Milimani Law Courts on Wednesday, the lady identified as Naomi Nechesa Sanya who is being investigated for the offence of murder denied that she engaged in sex with the underage boy at the Riruta Police Station on Sunday night.

State prosecutor Kennedy Panyako told the court that the accused met the complainant along the corridors of the police station where she had sex with him.

The prosecutor also added that the 15-year-old boy who had been arrested over a drug-related offence could not be detained with adults in the cells.
But the accused denied two counts of defilement and indecent assault, Kenyan Nation reported.

Nechesa then applied to be released on reasonable bond terms, saying “I have an 11-month-old baby who is breastfeeding.” She further pleaded, “Since my arrest and detention on Sunday I have not seen my baby neither have I breastfed her.”
The accused told the magistrate it is the child's right to be breastfed and separating her from her mother is a breach of the baby’s rights to suckle and to motherly care and attention.
“I urge this court, in the name of my child’s rights, [to] release me on bond or direct police to go to my residence and pick my baby and reunite her with me at the police station,” Nechesa pleaded.
She said that she will plead guilty to the murder charge once investigations are completed.
State prosecutor opposed the bail plea, saying murder investigations against the women were underway.
In his ruling, Senior Principal Magistrate Kennedy Cheruiyot directed police to reunite the woman with her baby so that she can breastfeed her.
“I direct police pick the baby from the suspect’s residence then take her to the accused at the Riruta Police Station to breastfeed her,” the magistrate said.
He also ordered that the defilement case be heard on Thursday since the boy is being held in a children’s detention home.
The magistrate further directed that Nechesa remain in custody to help police to conclude the capital offences investigations

A 45-year-old man, Idowu Owolabi, has been arrested by men of the Ogun State Police Command, for allegedly raping his 21-year-old daughter.

According to the state police command's spokesperson, Abimbola Oyeyemi, Owolabi who has three wives, started having sex with his daughter last year at their home in the Papa Olosun area of Oja-Odan in the Yewa South Local Government Area of the state.

She stated further that since then, her father had continuously been having unlawful carnal knowledge of her with a threat that he would kill her if she dared tell anybody about it. Upon the report, the DPO Oja-Odan, CSP Olayemi Jacob, led his detectives to the suspect’s residence, where he was promptly arrested.
“On interrogation, the suspect, who was said to be married to three different women, confessed to the crime but blamed it on the devil'' Abimbola said

Facebook plans new products as Instagram Stories hits 500M users/day

Instagram International
Roughly half of Instagram’s users 1 billion users now use Instagram Stories every day. That 500 million daily user count is up from 400 million in June 2018. 2 million advertiseres are now buying Stories ads across Facebook’s properties.
CEO Mark Zuckerberg called Stories the last big game-changing feature from Facebook, but after concentrating on security last year, it plans to ship more products that make “major improvements” in people’s lives.
During today’s Q4 2018 earnings call, Zuckerberg outlined several areas where Facebook will push new products this year:
  • Encryption and ephemerality will be added to more features for security and privacy
  • Messaging features will make Messenger and WhatsApp “the center of [your] social experiences”
  • WhatsApp payments will expand to more countries
• Stories will gain new private sharing options
  • Groups will expand to encompass new experiences
  • Facebook Watch will become mainstream this year, Zuckerberg expects
  • Augmented and virtual reality will be improved, and Oculus Quest will ship this spring
  • Instagram commerce and shopping will get new features
  • Zuckerberg was asked about Facebook’s plan to unify the infrastructure to allow encrypted cross-app messaging between Facebook Messenger, Instagram, and WhatsApp, as first reported by NYT’s Mike Isaac. Zuckerberg explained that the plan wasn’t about a business benefit, but supposedly to improve the user experience. Specifically, it would allow Marketplace buyers and sellers in countries where WhatsApp dominates messaging to use that app to chat instead of Messenger. And for Android users who use Messenger as their SMS client, the unification would allow those messages to be sent with encryption too. However, Zuckerberg says this will take time and could be a “2020 thing”.
Facebook says it now has 2.7 billion monthly users across the Facebook family of apps: Facebook, Instagram, Messenger, and WhatsApp. However, Facebook CFO David Wehner says “Over time we expect family metrics to play the primary role in how we talk about our company and we will eventually phase out Facebook-only community metrics.” That shows Facebook is self-conscious about how its user base is shifting away from its classic social network and towards Instagram and its messaging apps.

Google+ for consumers will shut down on April 2nd

rip-google-plus1
It’s no secret that Google planned to pull life support from the consumer version of Google+, its failure of a social network, in April. Until now, though, we didn’t know the exact date. That date, Google announced today, is April 2.
On that date, Google will start deleting all content, including Google+ pages, photos and videos, and everything else on the site. If you were one of the last few Google+ users — or you just feel nostalgic about the stuff you posted there — now is the time to download all of that data.
If your company uses Google+ (and there must be some companies that do), then rest assured you will still be able to use it for the foreseeable future. Google is only shutting down the consumer version, as well as all Google+ APIs. Indeed, those APIs, which turned out to be major security liabilities, will shut down on March 7.And there you have it. That’s the curtain call for Google+, the social network that could’ve been, from an era when Google desperately tried to catch up with Facebook and Twitter and integrated Google+ into every conceivable product. It even went so far as changing its sacred search results based on social signals (which really didn’t work all that well). The result was a bit of a disaster for Google and it took a while to right the ship.

Today, Google’s Vic Gundotra announced that he would be leaving the company after eight years. The first obvious question is where this leaves Google+, Gundotra’s baby and primary project for the past several of those years.
What we’re hearing from multiple sources is that Google+ will no longer be considered a product, but a platform — essentially ending its competition with other social networks like Facebook and Twitter.

Commenting on the latest returnees, Muhammed decried the huge number of Nigerians stranded in the North African country. He enjoined the returnees to be agents of positive change and take up the challenge against irregular migration by telling whoever wants to embark on such a dangerous journey to desist from it. "Migration is protected by international and national statutes for movement of people through proper regularisation of papers that would protect and save you against risks of irregular migrations," he said. Muhammed added that NEMA hosted a team from the European Union on monitoring and evaluation of the special European Union (EU) intervention on assisted voluntary return of migrants.

Where was she when 57 boys were unjustly arrested - Nigerian man reacts to Tonto Dikeh's public support for Jussie Smollett

A Facebook user has questioned why Tonto Dikeh is declaring support for Jussie Smollett after he suffered a homophobic attack, but didn't declare support for young men arrested in Nigeria on suspicion of being gay.

Walter Shakespearean Ude, who recently had a row with Bisi Alimi when the gay rights activist accused him of keeping silent while his gay site was being used to slander him (read here), wrote on Facebook:

Tonto Dikeh is on Instagram sending love and light to Jussie Smollett. Saying no to homophobia. Declaring that nobody should be persecuted for who they love.
It is nice. I commend her.
I just wonder where her voice was when similar tragedies were occurring amongst her fellow Nigerians. When 57 boys were unjustly arrested. When the blogs turn homophobic attacks into sensational clickbait headlines.
It's nice o. That we're all rooting for Jussie Smollett is a beautiful act of humanity. But Jussie Smollett lives in a society with a system that will strive to get him justice.
What about the Jussie Smolletts in Nigeria? Where are the celebrity voices saying no to the injustices meted out on them?

Italian town with a dwindling population is offering $10,000 to people to move there and have a baby.

An Italian town is offering new residents $10,000 to relocate and have a baby.
Locana, a town in north west Italy, is experiencing a dwindling population and the mayor is offering cash rewards in order to attract more families back to the shrinking community.
Anyone wanting to relocate to the Alpine commune in the Piedmont region could be paid up to $10,000 (€9,000) over three years to make Locana their home.
Giovanni Bruno Mattiet, Locana's mayor, has made the offer in the hope of saving the community from dying out.
At first, Mattiet appealed to Italians or foreigners already living in Italy to relocate to Locana but the response was not encouraging, He is now extending the offer to non-Italians living abroad as well.
Due to the dwindling population, the community has seen shops, restaurants and amenities shut and its only school is facing closure. Last year there were 40 deaths in the town but just 10 babies were born, with a similar ratio in previous years.
The population of Locana has shrunk to less than 1,500 people from the over 7,000 residents who lived in Locana in the early 1900s.
Locana mayor, Mr Mattiet, told CNN:

People left looking for a job at Turin's big factories. Our school each year faces the risk of shutting down due to few pupils. I can't allow this to happen.
We're looking to draw mostly young people and professionals who work remotely or are willing to start an activity here.
There are dozens of closed shops, bars, restaurants and boutiques just waiting for new people to run them.
Locana offers a healthy lifestyle, great food and folklore fairs all-year round.

Another Piedmont town also trying to draw in new residents is offering to give $1,144 (€1,000) to anyone who has a baby there, and another $2,288 (€2,000) to anyone willing to start and register a business.

Borgomezzavalle on the Italian/Swiss border is also offering abandoned cottages, barns and stables for just €1, which is 87p, and the crumbling buildings have to be refurbished within two years, Daily Mail reports. Authorities in the remote towns hope the low taxes and cheap cost of living will attract people from outside the area to come and live.
